The Dallas Wings are one loss from elimination. Golden State beat Dallas 104–80 Sunday night at Chase Center, taking a 1–0 lead in their best-of-three first-round playoff series. The seventh-seeded Wings now come home needing a win against the second-seeded Valkyries to keep their season alive.

Game 2 is Wednesday, September 30, at 8 p.m. Central at College Park Center in Arlington. A Dallas win would force Game 3 back in Golden State.

Golden State took control before halftime

This was a one-point game after the first quarter. Then the Valkyries outscored the Wings 37–11 in the second, turning a close start into a 58–31 halftime lead. Golden State finished with 18 made three-pointers; Dallas could not close the gap in the second half.

That gives the Wings a clear problem to solve before Wednesday: how do they make Golden State work harder for shots from deep without leaving other openings? Dallas also needs a steadier offensive stretch than it found in that second quarter. Those adjustments belong to the players and coaches, and Game 2 will show whether they can make them in time.

A 27–17 regular season earned Dallas this postseason opportunity. One rough playoff night does not erase those wins. But a best-of-three series offers little room to recover: the Wings must defend home court now.

Will North Texas show up?

Wednesday is also a chance to see how DFW supports women’s basketball when the stakes are highest. What will the crowd at College Park Center sound like with the season on the line? Are playoff tickets within reach for families and youth teams? What would make more local fans feel that this team is theirs to follow all season, not just when elimination is near?

We want to hear from Wings fans, season-ticket holders, Black women’s basketball organizations and young players in the stands. Their view of this postseason moment matters alongside what happens on the court.

Golden State delivered the reality check. Dallas gets one home game to answer it.
